Shea Holbrook lets out all the stops

Shea Holbrook likes to go fast.

The 19-year-old phenom from Groveland, Fla., will hit the road at the World Challenge season opener, March 26-28, marking her professional debut in road racing. When Holbrook makes her start, she will become one of the youngest female drivers in World Challenge history… Read more here

Holbrook to Make Rookie World Challenge Run in 2010
GROVELAND, Fla. (Feb. 4, 2010)
Shea Racing, LLC. is proud to announce its participation in the World Challenge season opener, March 26-28, at St Petersburg, Fla. Team owner and driver Shea Holbrook, 19, of Groveland, Fla., will strap-in and make her debut professional road race in the World Challenge Touring Car (TC) class. According to series archives, Shea is one of the youngest female drivers to take the grid in World Challenge history.
Holbrook is a competitor thru-and-thru. Formerly a state-, regional- and nationally- ranked water-skier, she is no stranger to the thrill of speed or danger. A few years ago, Holbrook traded in the water skies for the smell of race fuel and burnt rubber.
"It's an awesome experience go over a jump at 50-plus mph to hurl yourself hundreds of feet thru the air, but it just doesn"t compare to going into turn 17 at Sebring at 100-plus mph,” Holbrook said.
Holbrook is currently a college student studying Broadcasting and wants to make motorsports a career.
“This being my first professional race, I have two goals,” Holbrook added. “First, to bring the car home in one piece and second, for all those veteran drivers out there that read this, regardless of where I finish, I plan on giving you all the respect that you deserve and I’m thankful for having the opportunity.”
There are many people in the motorsports world that have greatly enriched Holbrook’s life. People like John Doonan (Mazda Motorsports), George Ayres http://www.greenerspeed.com , Skip Baber Racing, Lyn St James http://www.lynstjames.com and Marcus Haselgrove http://autohausmotorsports.com, to mention a few, “thank you all for your friendship, wisdom and continued support.”
Currently Shea Racing’s primary sponsor is MD&F (Mom, Dad & Friends) but we are diligently trying to change this. We do have very creative marketing plan for interested companies that actually requires no upfront capital, so if you’re interested in finding out the details please contact www.SheaRacing.com .
We would like to thank World Challenge and SCCA Pro Racing for the opportunity and look forward to a great season. See you on the grid!

49. Life In The Fast Lane

Sherry Mims caught up with teenage racecar driver Shea Holbrook in May ’08 for a memorable feature on the phenom’s amazing career to that point. And to think, most of us were still considering our next move at that age. But Shea’s plans are on the fast track—literally.

January 15, 2009
- Shea Holbrook and Donna Gilio just ran a 6 hour endurance race this past Thursday night at Sebring with PBOC (Porsche and BMW Club) in Shea's Acura Integra and finished 20th out of 66 cars. The most impressive fact of the race was that we were the pole for all the four cylinder cars. Our qualifying time was 2:31 and our average race lap time was a 2:35. A few mechanical difficulties kept us from wining our class but the car and drivers were definitely capable.

- Shea places 1st in class during the NASA Homestead race. It has been a busy week for Shea as she gets ready for the FARA race on December 20th. The Acura had a few problems, but even with these challenges Shea still managed to place first in class.

December 6, 2008
- Team Diva Speed (The First Ever All Female Endurance Race Team) took 2nd
Place in the 6 Hours Race (the first 6 hours of the 25 hour race was a
separate race to close-out the seasons endurance races)
The 25 Hour - the race started as planed - 11am on Saturday morning with
Donna at the wheel - at about 7pm on Saturday night the race was Red Flagged
(stopped) due to heavy fog (Shea Holbrook was driving at this time). At 5:30
am the race resumed with Karen at the wheel. Karen then drove for the next
hour and a half. At the next fuel stop Glory jumped in for an hour and a
half. Shea took over and drove for the next three hours with one fuel stop.
Glory then hopped in for an other hour and a half with Shea relieving her
for the next hour and a half. Donna then took over to finish out the last
leg of the race.

The team finished 6th in class and 31st overall in a field of 66 teams. We
did have a few mechanically difficulties during the race. If these had not
happened the girls possible could have finished from 1st - 3rd in class
(this is based on there overall lap times in comparison to the rest of the
cars in class with an overall finish at about 20th - 23rd place.

November 15, 2008 - Shea Holbrook Wins the Cooper Tire Scholarship At The Women in the Winner’s Circle Driver Development Academy

Holbrook is one of 12 women drivers invited to participate in the 15th Academy classes
Shea Holbrook, 18, of Groveland, FL was named the inaugural recipient of the Cooper Tire & Rubber Company Scholarship for the first phase of the Women in the Winner’s Circle (WWC) Foundation Driver Development Academy.
“Cooper Tire’s decision to support the Academy and Shea demonstrates not only their support of training and educating young women drivers, but also their belief that women can be successful in all areas of motorsports,” said Lyn St. James, former professional motorsports driver and founder of the Women in the Winner’s Circle Foundation and Driver Development Academy. “By choosing to partner with this program, Cooper Tire is helping move motorsports forward as a gender integrated industry.”
In 2008, Holbrook raced in the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) ITS Class in her 1998 Acura Integra. She has also driven this car in the Formula and Automobile Racing Association (FARA) MP Classes and in National Auto Sports Association (NASA) events. Her next race is 25 Hours of Thunderhill in Richmond, CA on a four female team called DivaSpeed.
Holbrook’s long term goals in racing are driving open wheel race cars. In early 2008 Shea attended the Skip Barber two and three day advanced racing classes and earned her open wheel racing credential with the Skip Barber Racing Series. On October 25, 2008, Shea finished on the podium in the Skip Barber Southern Regional Race at Carolina Motorsports Park. For more information on Shea Holbrook log on to www.shearacing.com
The Foundation’s Complete Driver Academy is a comprehensive educational and training program for talented women race drivers who aspire to the professional levels of motorsports. Entry into the Academy is highly competitive and all women drivers who want to be considered must have raced at least three years, complete the Academy application and provide a documented race resume. The first phase of the 2008-2009 Academy was held November 14 -16 at Athletes Performance Institute and Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ. The weekend included hands on workshops by Dr. Jacques Dallaire of Performance Prime who taught the young women how to maximize their performances through focus and “rules of the mental road.” The weekend also included baseline physical fitness evaluations; an exercise session to shape programs to improve fitness levels, and nutrition, bio feedback and visualization workshops.
Established in 1994, the Academy has a two-fold purpose: (1) identify potential champion women drivers who have demonstrated success on the track and have a desire to pursue a career in professional motorsports; and (2) create an experience that will provide the tools to further women drivers’ careers in motorsports as well as enhance their lives on and off the track.
The Academy is a full year program including three onsite weekends: Weekend 1 – Physical and Mental Preparation; weekend 2 – Business Seminars and Media Training; and weekend 3 – On-track time and technical. Each participant leaves the weekend session with a series of assignments and deliverables that must be completed prior to be invited to the next session. Academy staff are available throughout the year to give counsel and support to the participants.www.lynstjames.com
