SHEA RACING AT THE STREETS OF TORONTO

Jul 24, 2013

Scotia, NY (July 24, 2013) – Shea Racing’s four-car team came away from the demanding 11-turn 1.75-mile street course of Toronto with a total of 6 top-ten finishes.

“The overall improvement that our Team continues to demonstrate each time we compete, has been encouraging not just for us, but also for our sponsors and the Series in general.  We’re very pleased with our progress thus far and look forward to maintaining our momentum throughout the season,” said Jeff Holbrook, Team Principal.

Jon Miller, in his No. 68 Titan Motorsports, loudbasstard, TrueCar Honda Civic Si continued on pace with another two top-five finishes (fourth and fifth) and is currently in 4th position in the TC Class of the Pirelli World Challenge Championship.

“Toronto is an amazing track but definitely tough on racecars. I ran a solid first race while managing my Pirelli tires for race two. The second race was eventful for us as we encountered an ABS problem in turn one which unfortunately caused me to get into fellow Honda driver, Brett Sandberg. The Team is improving with each event and I look forward to Mid-Ohio,” said Miller.

Toronto native, P.J. Groenke captured his first top-five in his No. 66 Mulligan Gold, Tundra Technical Solutions, Verax.ca, Honda Fit. Groenke and teammate Shea Holbrook ran bumper-to-bumper for the majority of both races. Groenke’s consistency earned him a seventh and fifth-place finish and elevated him to 6th in the Championship.

“It was great to get my first top-five finish in front of my hometown crowd and sponsors. Maybe it’s because I live here and drive these roads every day,” Groenke said jokingly. “We’re doing everything possible to get to the front and the crew has always given me a well prepared and car.  We’re looking forward to continuing our success in Mid-Ohio.”

Team principal and driver Shea Holbrook, piloted her No. 67 Radium, TrueCar, Lucas Oil Honda Fit to two top-ten (sixth and eighth) finishes. Holbrook has been focusing on finessing her driving technique while maximizing the performance of the Touring Car B-Spec

“There’s a lot of technique and consistency involved in driving a TCB car well. I love the door-to-door racing this season and I’m very proud of the car the team has built for me with the HPD Honda Racing kit. Although, it’s tough as an intense competitor to watch other cars fly by me outside of the draft. I’m working very hard on the things I can control, driving hard and having fun,” said Holbrook.

Prior to the race weekend the team added a fourth car to the Shea Racing fleet with the addition of Brian Fowler. Fowler, who comes from a prototype background, had his debut in a tubular framed chassis driving the No. 65 Ford Fiesta and finishing 12th in both events.

“It’s definitely a different driving style for me but the crew and my teammates made me feel right at home. I can’t express how thrilled I am to be competing in Pirelli World Challenge. Coming from a business background and racing for a few years with other teams I know how hard it is to be doing what Shea Racing is accomplishing. I’m looking forward to another race weekend with them,” said Fowler.

The team heads to Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course August 1-4th for Rounds 9 and 10 with Pirelli World Challenge alongside IndyCar.
